TOI RĀWHITI
WHAKATŌHEA | NGĀI TAI | TE WHĀNAU A APANUI
Toi Rāwhiti is a collective of the three iwi, Whakatōhea, Ngāi Tai and Te Whānau a Apanui that have gathered together as representatives of collective rights holders fully possessed of their rangatiratanga to exercise their mana whenua and mana motuhake within the greater Toi Rāwhiti region.
Drawing on ancient tribal alliances, Toi Rāwhiti is embarking on something big! Our iwi are joining forces to lead the way to protect and uphold the honourable implementation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to assert our rights as indigenous peoples.
Toi Rāwhiti exists to purposefully transform the greater Ōpōtiki district in order to realise Toi Ora - the absolute wellbeing of our people, and every person resident within the bounds of Toi Rāwhiti, from Ōpōtiki all the way down State Highway 35 to Pōtikirua at the tip of the East Coast.
We want to be the first Tiriti-led region in Aotearoa - a place where whānau, hapū and iwi as Mana Whenua, in partnership with Tangata Tiriti authentically determine the world that we wish to live in. A world where Indigenous peoples have the right to the full enjoyment, as a collective or as individuals, of all 7 human rights and fundamental freedoms as recognized in the Charter of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international human rights law.
Come join with us on this truly ground-breaking journey!
